Lesson Learned ... Probably Not!

February 12, 2007 / by shadesofblue

You know how you tell your kids over and over not to do certain things but they always have to learn the hard way? My stubborn-headed middle child (Almost 8) decided to break a bunch of different rules and see how far it got him. I'll tell you how far it got him...about a foot away from the impact...on the floor...taking a little carpet nap. Doofus child was running down the hall (Rule #1), after having left Kids Club without mom (Rule #2), and was looking behind him instead of where he was going (Rule #3)...and proceeded to run into the metal handle (with his face, after turning around just in time to do so) of a dolly/cart used to haul chairs at the school. He ended up on the floor face first next to the cart...blood everywhere...He had successfully put his lower tooth through his top lip, chipping a huge piece off of his tooth...and had a large gash above his right eyebrow. Thank goodness mom is a nurse...so she didn't panic (well, not after she saw that the blood was not spurting profusely and the kid did not show signs of brain damage) and she was able to maintain her composure and clean her kid up before driving home. The funniest thing about this whole incident? What the kid said when mom picked him up off of the ground to look him over...He was sobbing hysterically...and the first words to come out of his mouth..."Mom, can I still wrestle tonight?" I'm so proud!! That's my tough little guy...rub some dirt on it and go play kid!! Needless to say he did not get to go to wrestling practice or the wrestling tournament in Lincoln. We were afraid he would bust the cut over his eye back open...we had to watch it to make sure it was not gonna need stitches...and his cracked tooth is pretty sharp. So he has to have the tooth capped now, of course it was a permanent tooth!! The good thing is he got to go to Lincoln to watch his little brother and cheer him on...and Skyman got first place!! He got a pretty nice trophy he has been beaming about ever since they handed it to him. Aren't moments like that just precious????

Thanks for the concern Jenn...I am also very glad he is okay. I hate seeing kids get hurt, even when they are doing something wrong...they never deserve to be hurt...I know it is how we learn and grow, but it is still so SAD!! [SAD]

[LOL][LOL][LOL]My youngest one was such a dare devil, that the last time she body surfed down the steps (one week after getting her cast off from another dare devil event) and cracked her arm against the railing, I threw a fit, and made her dad take her for x-rays. I told them both that I was tired of all the looks I would get when we took her in for x-rays. Thankfully, she settled down. However, she's broken her right arm twice, and I can't even begin to count how many times she's been x-rayed and wrapped. Kind of makes me feel better knowing that somebody else is in the same boat.[LOL] however, I do hope your little guy heals quickly.[HEART]

Boy was I laughing when I read your note!! I can absolutely relate...although I have really been pretty lucky thus far with my kids. Great...I'd better go find some wood now...[LOL] I was such a scaredy cat when I was growing up...afraid I would get scars all over myself. It paid off though cuz' I never broke one bone and have very little scarring from anything. But anyways...he is on the mend and even got to wrestle this last weekend. Thanks a lot for the great story and the concern!! [HEART]
